Don’t think that because you have aches and pains or you’re a certain age that you can’t train or lift weights, you can and you will feel better for it.
I’m 52 was working in retail, and essentially lazy as far as exercise went, usual aches and pains, lower back and hips hurt, I joined a gym and got a bit bored and if I found stuff a bit hard I’d stop, I didn’t push myself so didn’t make any headway, so like lots of people I stopped, I started to do a some PT sessions with Josh and really enjoyed it. So when I heard about Fortitude I thought I’d give it a go, that was a year ago and I’ve never looked back.
A bit unsure of training with a class (they were all bound to look fantastic in lycra right !!!!) I found a great group of people, all ages all abilities all shapes and sizes and I knew I’d found just what I needed. No one judges you or makes you feel uncomfortable, everyone is there for the same reason, to get fitter and healthier.
The classes are so friendly, we help each other and push each other to achieve things we would never do training alone in a gym.
Josh and Tina are great and without being pushy they work on your strengths and weaknesses and before you know it you find yourself doing things you never thought you would. I learnt about stretching different muscles to help hip and back pain, which is much better now.
I am fitter and stronger than I ever thought I’d be at my age, and I really enjoy it, I swap and change classes, depending on what time I’ve got so there are different people all at different levels to train with and even though I might not be able to do what others do no one cares. I’m doing my best and that’s what matters.
My favourite thing to do is to lift weights, I could just about lift 30kg a year ago, and gradually without really noticing I can now lift 70 kg and I can’t tell you how chuffed I am to be able to do that but it’s not just about heavy weights, it’s being able to do things I couldn’t do a year ago, my cardio fitness is so much better and I feel better generally.
I have made new friends and found something I enjoy. Don’t think that because you have aches and pains or you’re a certain age that you can’t train or lift weights, you can and you will feel better for it.
